The Curse of Knowledge: this is a cognitive bias that occurs when one person who is communicating knowledge to another assumes that the person to whom they are transmitting knowledge has the necessary background to understand what is being communicated to him. It is no wonder that the most educated professionals — namely teachers — would have had experience with this at some point in their careers, only to eventually realize that there are many foundational concepts that might have to be revisited and explicitly retaught before the students are able to grasp and master the more complex concepts and skills that they are expected to comprehend and execute by the end of the course. The same holds true for the student’s conduct, which is a foundational aspect of the classroom as a whole.
Indeed, mastery of content related skills is a time-consuming undertaking, and time spent on classroom management is time lost — time that can be dedicated to the mastery of content. Often times, students exhibit undesirable behaviors, not realizing that the behavior they are exhibiting is undesirable, which is why it is important for teachers to not take for granted that the students would know what is expected of them or how to be optimal students. Being an optimal student, much like content, is something they need to be explicitly taught, and the Center for Teaching Effectiveness Time to Teach classroom management model, offers robust strategies that do just that!
A student is defined as one who is studying at a school or college – not just one who attends a school or college, and they must learn how to actively study and that they can contribute to creating an environment that is conducive to studying. In other words, they must learn how to be students before they can learn content, and how to be students in every single phase of their education. NO GIMMICKS, NO CLICHES: DR. EZAD’S TRAINING WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO DO JUST THAT.
Dr. Ezad knows the biggest unchallenged assumption by many today (especially politicians) about education is that kids are coming to school willing and ready to learn. Whereas they may be willing, they are not necessarily ready, as they might not have been taught the foundational skills to be an optimal student. This is a problem easily solved through the many proven, practical strategies you will take away from just a single one of Dr. Ezad’s training sessions. He’s done the research, so you won’t have to, affording you more Time to Teach!!
